The traditional Aboriginal art designs featured in our fashion collection depict ancient Dreamtime stories that have been passed down to the artists through many generations of their ancestors over tens of thousands of years.
Mainie has always been passionate about the empowerment of Aboriginal women and is strongly committed to embracing sustainable fashion ethics and business practices.
The Australian Aboriginal art designs in our collection are all ethically acquired from Aboriginal owned art centres in accordance with strict art licensing conditions, whereby the Aboriginal artists retain the copyright to their original artwork and are paid royalties from all Mainie sales.
Every Mainie we make gives back to the Aboriginal woman artist who created the original design, to elevate and empower her, her family and her community.
The provenance of the textiles used to create our fashion pieces is just as important to us as the conscientious sourcing of our authentic Aboriginal art designs.
We source only the finest materials from audited and reputable manufacturers whose workplace conditions and production techniques fully comply with international quality standards, labour laws and environmental protection conditions.
Our fabulous silks are sourced from the ancient city of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province in China. Situated in the Yangtze Delta and known as the Venice of China, Suzhou has been an important silk making centre for over 4,000 years.
